The Lawn Mower that redefines Gardening - by award winning graduate from the University of Plymouth
For immediate release
9 Jun 2010
Andrew Coghill, a Product Design graduate at the University of Plymouth introduces Beetroot, an innovative way of all-in-one power gardening.
Not only does Beetroot mow your lawn, it also clips, prunes and vacuums, and cleverly stores a set of gardening utensils that goes with you anywhere in the garden.
Innovative use of vacuum power means that, a range of interchangeable hand tools, such as edging clippers or power pruners can be attached, just like in a vacuum cleaner. Power for these is generated from mini turbines, as in professional pneumatic power tools.
With a long 4 meter vacuum hose, loose grass and debris can be sucked into Beetroot’s collection bag, or reversed to blow away leaves.
A range of gardening tools, normally too bulky to be carried around, can be stored in Beetroot’s two toolboxes, thanks to a unique universal handle design. Just like in an interchangeable screwdriver, different tool tips can be attached, which means that all your tools can stay with you as you move around the garden.
After use, the handle folds in half so that the mower can be carried like a suitcase, and it can sit upright, reducing Beetroot’s footprint. All wheels are height adjustable.
“Beetroot is a ‘concept car’ for gardeners. It is like an outdoor work station that makes gardening easier and more enjoyable”.
Andrew is also the winner of a prestigious design award from the Royal Society of Arts.
His work will go on display at his Graduation Show at the University of Plymouth, 12-24 June, and at the New Designers Exhibition in London, 8-11 July, on stand F31.
