THE BUSINESS DESIGN CENTRE OVERFLOWED WITH AMAZING DESIGN TALENT AT NEW DESIGNERS 2010 – PART 1
New Designers 2010 Part 1 concluded on Sunday 4 July and the 1700 graduate designers had cause to celebrate as on-site sales totalled approximately £42,000 with the surety that the figure will increase significantly in the coming weeks and months. The show attracted representatives from leading companies and galleries seeking to recruit new talent, commission work, purchase collections and offer future exhibition opportunities.
Not only did Harlequin, Graham & Brown and Tigerprint present awards to individual designers at the show, but they have also offered additional work placements and purchased entire portfolios. New Designers also attracted interest from buyers from Laura Ashley, Mothercare, Oasis, Acheson and George at Asda. Collection Eighteen in New York sent a scout to seek out the latest ideas for its exclusive celebrity clientele. Meanwhile industry trend forecasters from WGSN, Trend Bible and Artsthread were at the show in force – determined to cover every aspect that included textiles and fashion accessories, jewellery, applied arts, ceramics, glass, interior trends and homewares.
There have been invitations to exhibit across the UK from galleries such as Tate Modern, Primavera in Cambridge; Mint, The Harley Gallery, the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, and the Society of Designer Craftsmen for it January showcase at the Mall Galleries in London next year. The Yorkshire Sculpture Park expressed interest in Kevin Morris from the Glasgow School of Art. Textile designers have been selected for the forthcoming Festival of Quilts at the NEC. The European Design Group will be taking a number of exhibitors discovered at New Designers to the ICFF in New York.
Visitors from across the design spectrum and across the world were ‘overwhelmed by the enormity of the talent on show’ and ‘excited at the level of professionalism and creativity’.
There will be more again later this week as New Designers opens on 8th July until 11th July and unveils innovation in furniture, product, architecture, interiors and visual communications including graphics, illustration and animation.- ENDS –
