Carla Sorrell discusses the British Council's New Silk Road Project Carla Sorrell of the British Council will discuss the current incarnation of the campaign which lasted from October 2010 – May 2011. A series of four residencies in the region offered UK designers the opportunity to immerse themselves in the craft and cultural traditions of each of the respective countries visited with workshops focusing on the material heritage of the region. |

| 15:00-16:00 | A Reflection on the times we live in; Nicholas Arroyave-Portela Nicholas will talk about his forthcoming show “Todo sobre mi Padre” at Contemporary Applied Arts from 23 July to 21 August. It is a collection of 11 framed ceramic wall pieces which record his father’s various migration routes throughout his life and therefore his re-evaluation of what it means to be British today.He will also talk about his new found drive to forge a different kind of artistic identity, where his connection to the material is a vital part of the concept.
