3 QUESTIONS WITH BETH DABORN, TU CLOTHING

Introducing Beth Daborn, a rising talent in the world of print design, and a Graduate Assistant at TU Clothing.

What was your experience like at New Designers?

New Designers was an amazing experience which allowed me to connect with industry professionals and so many talented creatives! During New Designers, I met the Tu Design Team, where I am now doing a year’s internship which I love! I couldn’t be more grateful for having the opportunity to exhibit at New Designers and it really has opened doors in starting my design career.

Tell us about your role in your company and your career trajectory.

With the design team at Tu I am working as an Assistant Print Designer across various teams, where I get to design for Baby, Essentials, Girlswear and Womenswear. Having the opportunity to design and work with all these different departments has really taught me so much, helping me understand how to design for different customer profiles, and I have really been able to develop and improve my design handwriting. Each day is so different and I pinch myself every day that I get to design for Tu because I absolutely love it! In the future I would love to continue being a Print Designer, especially for kidswear. Or maybe even illustrate a children’s book one day!

What piece of advice would you give to an up-and-coming designer?

I would say design what you want to design and what you are passionate about, not what you think you should be designing based of what you see everyone else doing around you. Designing and creating work that you are truly passionate about really reflects in your work and helps it to shine. Don’t compare yourself to others because no exciting new designs would be created if we all followed the crowd. And have fun, you will have your good days and your bad days when it comes to creating designs and that’s okay! It’s all part of the process so enjoy it!
