3 QUESTIONS WITH BETH FELLOWS, TU CLOTHING

We’re thrilled to sit down with Beth Fellows, Assistant Designer at TU Clothing, to dive into her world of creativity and innovation.

How do you keep yourself updated with the latest design trends in the industry?

I try to vary my inspiration for trends by taking in every aspect of life as inspiration, reading homeware and fashion magazines, following runways, watching interior design shows. But I would be lying if I didn’t say that social media, particularly TikTok, played a key role. It’s easier than ever now to connect with the world and social media can be a really fun place for people to play with their creative side.

Looking back to the start of your career, what advice would you give to yourself?

To look at what options are out there. Often at university we’re told about the surface level jobs that everyone thinks of; high end, couture, dresses, blouses, suits. I never would have thought about designing nightwear and yet it is the most inspired role I’ve found myself in so far and I’ve really thrown myself into it.

What does a typical day look like for you?

It is hard to put this down to one day as every day is so different so I will describe a typical range building day. The whole team is in, we pull all the samples, strike offs and 3D cads out and throw them up on the walls to be able to see everything. Everyone points out their favourites and we begin pulling them together to form a collection, then take notes of any changes to brief to suppliers and the print team. I plot all the styles into my collaborative pack so everyone can start on their part, grading or pricing. We then give management a run through to ensure they’re happy with everything before packing away for the day.
