WINNER NAME:

Yitong Zhang @yitong_zhangyt

UNIVERSITY:

Silversmithing and Jewellery Design, The Glasgow School of Art

TITLE OF WORK:

A Part, Not Apart

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

The works imply the interdependent relationship of many life communities from a perspective of human beings, inspired by COVID-19. Through the reflection of silver, the flower will show a mirror image in a bunch so that the bouquet will be alive or dead depending on the one in the middle.

AWARD BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

Creativity, craftsmanship and community are at the heart of the Goldsmiths’ Centre. They invited the silversmiths tosubmit work on the theme of “Community”.

JUDGES COMMENTS:

Mindful of the properties of silver ‘A Part, Not Apart’ contrasts a complex shape with organic forms. Yitong’s clever use of silver’s reflective properties resulted in a striking design which mirrors colour – a clear winner.
