Lakeland Home Design Award

WINNER

FROM THE JUDGES

The Lakeland Design award goes to Nick Fitzpatrick for Inclusivitea. We chose this design as we thought he tackled some very real issues with consumer product in the home, focusing on problems an older population may have with appliances focusing at dexterity and weight.

OVERVIEW

Create a product which solves a problem experienced in the home.

Within the categories of cooking, baking, laundry and cleaning, identify one issue and design a new product which solves it, or reinvent an existing “home” product in a different way.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Over the last year, Nick Fitzpatrick realised how difficult kettles can be to use for a wide variety of people, especially elderly people, people with visual impairments and people with reduced strength or dexterity. Highlighting two core functionality problems to fix – the filling and pouring of kettles, Nick created an exciting, innovating and inclusive kettle that would not only remove obstacles for people without drawing attention to their disability, but to create something that provided a better user experience for everyone.
