WINNER NAME:
Gemma Singleton @g_singletondesigns
UNIVERSITY:
BA (Hons) Textiles, Bucks New University
TITLE OF WORK:
Tokyo to Kyoto
DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
‘Tokyo to Kyoto’ is a journey into Japanese culture whilst exploring the visual concept and sensory benefits of biophilic design. Throughout my collection, I explored cultural activities such as fish markets. Intricate detailed drawings formed the basis of my prints which are then translated into digital designs.
AWARD BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
Sainsbury’s Argos Home invited the designers to create a capsule collection of print, pattern and product that they felt would appeal to their forward thinking home and furniture customers.
JUDGES COMMENTS:
We really enjoyed Gemma’s primary research and storytelling throughout the evolution of her final design concept. Great wellness link to biophilic design and connecting the consumer to nature through a strong colour palette and botanical motifs. A confident use of scale, composition and bold ink drawings translated through to commercial prints reflected beautifully onto 3D prototypes.
AWARD PRIZE:
The opportunity to sell their design for £500 whilst gaining mentoring from our inhouse creative studio to help kick start their career.
