People's Choice

New Designers gives visitors the choice to select their favourite of of the shorts screened. The 2017 winner was emerging designer exhibiting with Birmingham City University, Nina Parker Noon for The Cosmonaut.

Talking about her film, Nina said “This film was an opportunity for me to explore and experiment with the boundaries of hybridisation within animation. I wanted to see if combing 2-D with stop-motion and some special effects hindered or enhanced the viewing experience and story. I originally wanted to make a traditional stop-motion animation with an armature but after some research I found I wanted to give cut-out animation a go and so began the long process of making it happen. It took a lot of thorough organisation and planning to make this film in this way, but I think it has taught me how crucial that is to film-making and animation.”
