In the Department of Fashion and Textiles at the Glasgow School of Art (GSA), you will find an international community of around 200 students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Textile Design at GSA centres on practice-based learning to prepare students for the future – whether they want to pursue creative careers in fashion, interiors, product, automotive, material innovation, colour or trend.

The BA (Hons) Textile Design curriculum develops students’ individual creative identity through skills development and experimentation with research, drawing and colour, design, technical investigation, material exploration and visualisation. Studio and workshop learning promotes making by hand, traditional processes, digital skill acquisition, and innovation. Sustainable and responsible design continues to evolve and inform practices and outcomes. Aspects of the programme provide opportunities for cross-disciplinary learning, collaboration, live projects, careers and enterprise experiences. Historical and theoretical understanding broadens perspectives related to textiles and wider knowledge domains.

The work of our graduating students demonstrates uniqueness and diversity in terms themes, ideas, processes and practices towards individual interests and creative aspirations. Skills have been developed through one of four textile specialisms – Weave, Knit, Embroidery and Print. Our graduates are employed in industry, work with communities, set up businesses, or continue their educational journeys.
