Company: Changing Spaces

Victoria Baths is a fitting backdrop for the GNCCF and we are keen to make use of some of its interior architectural features to present craft and champion makers at different stages of their craft journey, through a series of exhibitions around the building.

Changing Spaces will be an exhibition of graduate work in the original Edwardian pool-side changing cubicles.

We’re interested in showing work from as many students/ graduates as we can to make up for the recent lack of opportunities available. We have a total of 48 spaces. This open call is directed at:  2021 BA and MA graduates, 2020 graduates, and current students on MA courses in craft and 3D design, including ceramics, glass, jewellery, furniture, textiles, lighting and product design.  It will be an opportunity to showcase their work to the GNCCF audience of craft buyers, collectors, curators and other craft professionals.

The changing cubicles are small spaces which could accommodate a plinth or small display table.  Each tiled space has a half-height door, a bench at the rear and work can be hung from the sides. Please see photos below. The space is a blank canvass so we invite applicants to be creative with their display whilst respecting the Grade 2 listed status of the space.  Each selected graduate/student can have two cubicles – one to display work and the other to stand/sit in for social distancing.

Work exhibited can be physical objects and/or sketchbooks, artwork and photos (should interested applicants have not been able to make pieces due to the pandemic). Successful applicants will be expected to set up their work on Friday 8th October 2021 and be present during the public openings (work left unattended at your own risk).

We welcome applications from diverse and talented graduates/students whatever their background and encourage applicants from those groups which are currently under-represented in the craft sector. This is a free exhibition opportunity and any expenses incurred for materials, display or for taking part ( eg. accommodation/travel) are the responsibility of the selected graduate/student.
