New Designers

One Year In

One Year In showcases and celebrates design entrepreneurs who have recently launched their businesses.

Spanning over both weeks One Year In provides a platform for new design talent to show and sell their work. As well as the support One Year in offers to the emerging creatives, it gives visitors an opportunity to purchase work, meet the makers and take inspiration from the next generation of design. Curated in 2019 by Emily Skinner the lineup covered every corner of design creativity and saw designers responding to some of the most important challenges of our time, from sustainability to social care.

💥 TAKEOVER BY ONE YEAR IN ALUMNI 💥@jkwilliams_ Aside from non-fiction books I love working across a whole range of illustration areas. I’ve been lucky enough to work with some amazing people on projects such as advertising for The New York Times and The Collective Co-living as well as editorials for Popshot Magazine, The Telegraph and The Evening Standard Magazine amongst others. This is one of my favourite aspects of working as a freelance illustrator, having the opportunity to work on a wide and diverse range of projects with brilliant and interesting people!

Thank you to everyone who has followed along with me on this ND takeover! I can’t speak highly enough of New Designers it was an amazing experience and a huge boost to my career. If you would like to see more of my work, find out more about Darwin’s Voyage of Discovery or have any questions for me head over to @jkwilliams_

💥 TAKEOVER BY ONE YEAR IN ALUMNI 💥When I came to New Designers in 2017 my main exhibition was focused around a 26 page non-fiction book about reptiles that I created for my uni final major project. As I mentioned in my first post it was here I met my brilliant publishers Pavilion. I worked with them to turn that 26 page book into my first full 96 page non-fiction book Really Remarkable Reptiles which released summer of last year (an amazing and surreal experience).

💥 TAKEOVER BY ONE YEAR IN ALUMNI 💥This was one of my favourite pages I illustrated from the book. I got the idea for the scene from Darwin’s description of the fireflies in his journal The Voyage of the Beagle.
