New Designers

Screening Room

The Screening Room at New Designers takes place in the second week with a curated selection of the best shorts from this year’s new filmmakers and animators at the show who are experimenting across moving image, animation, film, and gaming.

Themes in focus in our 2018 edition included dystopian futurism, local community and journeys, and mental health. Highlights included Thomas Smith from UCA Rochester, BA (Hons) Computer Animation Arts with the short film ‘Escape Zone 300’ – a 1980’s inspired sci-fi short, with nods to Indiana Jones, James Bond and Footloose, in which a sentient robot seeks to make his escape from a maximum high-security facility.

💥 TAKEOVER BY ONE YEAR IN ALUMNI 💥When I came to New Designers in 2017 my main exhibition was focused around a 26 page non-fiction book about reptiles that I created for my uni final major project. As I mentioned in my first post it was here I met my brilliant publishers Pavilion. I worked with them to turn that 26 page book into my first full 96 page non-fiction book Really Remarkable Reptiles which released summer of last year (an amazing and surreal experience).
