Looking back to the start of your career, what advice would you love to give yourself?

Seek out UK manufactures and producers, they are a fantastic source of knowledge. Understanding how something is produced changes the way you design.

What are your predictions for 2021 design trends and themes?

We often see trends act in polar opposites. Minimalism being one and a decadent Luxury being the other side of the spectrum. I would predict coming out of Covid 19. There will be a strong trend towards togetherness. Family’s and friends including the influence of the 70’s which has been around for the last few seasons. However a lot of what has changed over Covid 19 will be lasting. Consumers will be very conscious of what they choose to bring into their homes.

Who and what inspires you?

New material and technological advancement. New materials ultimately affect the way we design as a new material is often produced in a new way of manufacture of a by-product of manufacture. Meaning to use it you have to think differently or design differently ultimately changing the path you may have originally started on. Colour and materials is becoming more and more important as we see technology and our homes merge. Google home is a good example of this. Also new material generally are better for the environment.
