DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT
We’ve been using Wilcom for about ten years, we won the first Wilcom association award in 2015. We have a very small facility with two large flatbed machines. We managed to get the system in the first place, which would be game changing, by winning the competition. The way I think empowers students to be really explorative with the software and the machine, and to push it beyond it just being a graphic design stitch tool. Its thinking as an embroidery designer, hand stitching and machine stitching, so they’re thinking like an embroiderer. I think Wilcom recognise that we are pushing it in different directions, and that the work on the stand is very diverse – there is no one way of doing it at Falmouth University. There was lots of innovation. They were surprised to hear we’re doing that with very little kit. Covid completely stopped us from using Wilcom for a couple of years due to Covid-19 regulations, so we had to stagnate its use. With this year group, they were the first year group we introduced to Wilcom in their second year rather than third year.
