Timber Robot was founded by Philip Gay in 2022. Producing limited editions of furniture and objects, there is always a focus on making impactful pieces, exploring themes of duality, tactility and balance. Often using contrasting timbers and textures, and mixing materials. His work sits in the overlap between art, design and craft. He hopes his work connects with people, becomes part of their homes and by connection their lives.
Philip's background was as a propmaker, working on such films as Star wars - Rogue one and Mission Impossible Fallout. Alongside this he also worked with toy inventors developing prototype models and mechanisms. He believes this background feeds into his design aesthetic, after building so much temporary work he was driven to make items with more permanence. After retraining in fine woodwork he set up Timber Robot Studio.
All the pieces available through Timber Robot Studio have been designed and built by Philip. He finds the process of taking a concept though to realisation incredibly rewarding, building with his own hands is an important part of what he does. Each piece is now stamped and signed in a discreet location.
