Spring is finally here, and we’re bringing you our guide to the most exciting design events happening across the UK this month. As we celebrate Neurodiversity Celebration Week and embrace the theme of ‘Inspire Inclusion’ for International Women’s Day 2024, there’s no shortage of enriching experiences to explore across every corner of design. COLLECT 2024

SOMERSET HOUSE

1-3 MARCH 2024

Presented by the Crafts Council, Collect is the first major art fair in the spring London calendar, and the only fair solely dedicated to contemporary craft and design from all over the world.  This year, there is an extra buzz surrounding the fair as it celebrates its 20th year.

A visit to Collect is a journey of discovery. As visitors weave their way around the neo-classical corridors of Somerset House, they will be animated by the work from the artists which is of the highest, collectable quality. Ceramics, glass, textiles, art, jewellery, vessels, glassware, and sculptural objects are amongst the pieces that will be on display. Each work of art, skilfully crafted by the hands of the artist and bearing a narrative intended to evoke.

London’s best event for contemporary dressmaking, sewing and stitching, The Stitch Festival, returns to  the Business Design Centre from 21-24 March 2024.

THE BIBA STORY, 1964 - 1975

THE FASHION + TEXTILE MUSEUM

22 MARCH – 8 SEPTEMBER 2024

Opening on the 22nd of March, this major exhibition at the Fashion + Textile Museum explores how fashion phenomenon Biba became the world’s first lifestyle label, changing the way consumers shopped and becoming the epitome of 1960s and 1970s fashion.

ARTIFICIAL SILK

MUSEUM OF RICHMOND

UNTIL JUNE 2024

Viscose rayon is a soft, silky textile made from wood pulp which was invented in Kew in the early 1900s and continues to be one of the most widely produced fibres. Alongside historical artefacts and archival resources, the exhibition displays 27 artworks created by students from Richmond Upon Thames College’s Art and Design course, as part of their final year project.

Celebrate neurological differences this month and promote the understanding, acceptance, equality and inclusion in your school, university or workplace.

Attend a talk on ‘Neurodiversity: Fuelling Creative Minds’ chaired by Lucy Hobbs, Creative and Founder of the Future is ND, amongst a programme of panel discussions which are free of charge and open to all.

Plus, join ‘Neurodiversity Smart: A Workplace Toolkit’, a 90-minute workshop with Creative Access about how to make your workplace more neuro-inclusive.
